Turks and Caicos Islands - Grace Bay Beach Number One Beach in the World Again!

Turks & Caicos Islands - Providenciales - Grace Bay Beach takes Top Spot for Best Beach in the World

After tallying up the millions of reviews from their travelers, TripAdvisor has announced the winners of the 2012 Travelers’ Choice Awards, and Providenciales takes the top spot for best beaches in the world again. TripAdvisor, a popular online site for people looking to plan a great vacation, has revealed the winners of its fourth annual Travelers’ Choice Awards. While Provo has received a top spot over the past two years, it’s worth noting that the award categories have gone through a few changes since the awards’ inception in 2009. Not only has Provo won best beach in the world in 2011 and 2012, it previously won the award for best place for fun and sun in the world in the 2010 awards, which was the first time a beach category was included. “Families love it for its uncrowded beaches… Divers and snorkelers flock there to explore the bountiful barrier reef… And newlyweds find it a perfectly romantic place for a honeymoon,” reads TripAdvisor’s online description of what makes Provo, tourism capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the number one beach in the world. Not only did Provo beat other great competitors within the Caribbean such as Jamaica, Aruba, Dominican Republic and Cuba, but also world spanning locales like the Philippines, Mexico, Hawaii and Red Sea locations. Director of Tourism Ralph Higgs says he “concurs fully with TripAdvisor’s remarks. The world is now discovering what we have known all along.” Focusing on maintaining that coveted position at the top of the charts, Tourist Board is pushing an island wide campaign to educate the public about the need to keep the environment pristine and encourage continued tourism growth. The campaign has seen numerous billboards placed throughout the island displaying the theme of Tourism Environmental Awareness Month (TEAM), “Beautiful by nature-am I helping?” The focus of these billboards is to increase public awareness of the impact of littering and environmental negligence not only on our beautiful surroundings but also on the tourism industry which drives this economy. The Tourist Board has commented that these messages have been well received, and both local residents and visitors alike have played a key role in bringing attention to their importance. Radio listeners have probably already heard the official jingle and various radio spots advertising the need to keep the islands clean while testimonial videos showcasing what residents are doing to help the environment have already begun airing on television.
